Code of Conduct for Cooperative Housing Organization


Introduction This Code of Conduct serves as a guide for all members, residents, and participants of the cooperative housing organization. Its purpose is to foster a respectful, inclusive, and harmonious living environment where all individuals feel valued and heard. By adhering to these principles, we aim to create a sustainable, cooperative, and thriving community.

  

1. Respect and Inclusion

  • Treat      all members, residents, guests, and staff with dignity, respect, and      fairness, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation,      religion, disability, or socioeconomic background.
  • Avoid      discriminatory or harassing language or behavior in any form, including      verbal, written, and online interactions.
  • Foster      an environment of inclusion and mutual support.

2. Communication and Conflict Resolution

  • Practice      open, honest, and constructive communication.
  • Listen      actively and respectfully during discussions and meetings.
  • Resolve      conflicts in a calm and collaborative manner, utilizing mediation or other      established conflict resolution processes if necessary.

3. Participation and Engagement

  • Contribute      actively to the cooperative’s operations, decision-making, and      community-building efforts.
  • Attend      meetings, vote, and fulfill assigned roles or tasks in a timely manner.
  • Share      knowledge, skills, and resources to benefit the community.

4. Privacy and Personal Boundaries

  • Respect      the privacy, personal space, and belongings of others.
  • Obtain      consent before entering private areas or using another member’s property.
  • Maintain      confidentiality regarding personal or sensitive information shared by      members.

5. Accountability and Responsibility

  • Take      responsibility for personal actions and their impact on the community.
  • Follow      community guidelines, house rules, and any legal or organizational      requirements.
  • Report      safety hazards, damages, or maintenance issues promptly.
  • Ensure      shared spaces are kept clean, safe, and welcoming for all members.

6. Sustainability and Stewardship

  • Use      shared resources mindfully and minimize waste.
  • Promote      environmentally sustainable practices within the community.
  • Take      care of common areas, facilities, and shared property.

7. Safety and Well-being

  • Prioritize      the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of all members.
  • Refrain      from any behavior that endangers the safety or security of others.
  • Address      emergencies promptly and follow established safety protocols.

8. Zero Tolerance for Violence or Illegal Activities

  • Physical      violence, verbal threats, or any form of intimidation are strictly      prohibited.
  • Engaging      in illegal activities, including theft or the misuse of substances, is not      tolerated.

9. Compliance and Consequences

  • All      members are expected to comply with this Code of Conduct.
  • Violations      will be addressed through a fair and transparent process, which may      include warnings, mediation, or, in severe cases, termination of      membership.

  

Acknowledgment By joining this cooperative housing organization, each member agrees to abide by this Code of Conduct and to contribute positively to the community. Together, we can create a vibrant, respectful, and supportive living environment for all.
